Joined Charmilles Technologies (formerly Ateliers des Charmilles) as a development engineer in 1972 and worked in various positions there, latterly as Head of the high-end segment. During the interim period between 1985 and 1991 he worked first in research and development at Jean Gallay SA and then for three years as a self-employed consultant. Holds a degree and PhD in physics from the University of Geneva.
