MACH 2010: GF AgieCharmilles demonstrates the difference its technologies can make

Visitors to MACH 2010 in Birmingham, UK got a close-up look at how difference GF AgieCharmilles technologies the success of their business. The Group’s new laser ablation LASER products, high-performance and high-speed machining centers, and advanced EDM solutions were showcased at the June 7–11 event.

GF AgieCharmilles showed six machines at MACH 2010, including a machine from its recently-launched LASER range.

GF AgieCharmilles Milling products shown were two Mikron five-axis machining centers: the ever-popular, large capacity high-performance (HPM) 800U, and—making its UK debut—a new high-speed (HSM) 400U LP machine equipped with linear drives.

The two wire EDM machines exhibited on the booth were the CUT 20P, the fastest-selling wire EDM machine in its class in the market and now equipped with additional productivity features, and the FI 440CCs, a high-precision, super-fast and remarkable reliable EDM product equipped with CleanCut digital generator technology.

The spark erosion EDM machine also showcased on the GF AgieCharmilles booth was the FO 350 SP equipped with iQ zero wear technology.

GF AgieCharmilles’ MACH 2010 machine tool lineup was completed by the LASER 1000, the new five-axis laser ablation machine first unveiled to the world at EMO 2009.

“The machine tools we exhibited at MACH reflect our strength and prowess across the board,” said Martin Spencer, Managing Director at AgieCharmilles UK. “In five-axis machine tool technology, Mikron machining centers are renowned for their accuracy, fast and high removal rates, productivity and process reliability, flexibility and versatility. The two machines we showed—with their advanced spindle and direct-drive rotary table technologies, integrated automation and SMART technology software, combined with the tough, challenging demonstrations we have planned—boosted the Mikron reputation even further.”

GF AgieCharmilles’ EDM solutions also made a splash at MACH 2010.

“In EDM technology, the incredibly popular CUT 20P and FI 440 CCs wire machines were definite attractions, and the FO 350 SP spark erosion machine, demonstrating its zero wear benefits on both graphite and copper electrodes, created a big impression,” Martin Spencer said.

He added that he was proud to introduce the Group’s new LASER product line in the UK.

“The new laser ablation machine being exhibited, the five -axis LASER 1000 5Ax, represents a whole new—yet complementary—technology sector for GF AgieCharmilles,” said Spencer. “Our laser technology, enabling manufacturers to texturize, engrave, mark and label products including electrodes and machined parts, has significant potential in the mold tool and die sector with applications to the production of automotive and PET moulds, and in the jewelry, watch-making and fashion industries.”

Spencer said the public response to GF AgieCharmilles’ products at MACH 2010 met his expectations.

“It was a busy and brisk MACH and, with the technologies we demonstrated at MACH 2010 that’s just what we expected,” he said.
